As Congress is debating the future of cuts and changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as food stamps, we need to show our strong support for the program.

Tell Alaska’s Members of Congress that your organization supports SNAP TODAY. Cuts to SNAP would be detrimental for the 85,000 Alaskans on SNAP – including children, seniors, working families, veterans, and more. SNAP is a proven and effective program that is vital to ensuring that struggling Alaskans get the nutrition they need for their health and well-being. While Alaska is experiencing economic hardship, SNAP is a critical resource for families and individuals struggling financially and at risk of going hungry – whether it’s due to losing their job, experiencing a healthcare emergency, or managing a long-term disability.

The threats to this critically important program are real – and your organization needs to support SNAP today.

There are many ways to get involved!  Here are just a few ideas of next steps you could take:

  1. Sign this letter to our congressional delegation about the importance of protecting SNAP in the federal budget (ONE SIGNER PER ORGANIZATION)
  2.  Submit a letter to the editor or an op-ed about the impact these cuts will have on the people you serve and our communities,
  3. Like the new SNAP Campaign Facebook Page – SNAP Works Alaska!

Please let us know how you want to help!  We can help you to draft letters, op-eds and action alerts. Your voices will be so important in the battle to protect SNAP from devastating and drastic cuts.
